Topping your wines in vintrace is done using the Multi topping operation. It is essentially a one to many transfer that allows you to capture the topping work done in the cellar, across all of your wine batches.
As per any other transfer in vintrace the left hand side is the source vessel and your topping material. The right hand side is your destination vessels and the batches you want to top up. These destination batches can be added by using Add Line or the From Search option that takes you to a Bulk Wine Search screen.
If you are topping from a barrel group and are not using all of the wine in that group, you can select the volume and which vessel it should come from. Click the Barrel group list icon next to the vessel.
Confirm the volumes of each vessel and the total Out volume at the end of the topping by updating the Fill states. If you aren't fully emptying a vessel you can select a Fill of Specify and provide the remaining volume.
Next you need to provide the volumes in to your destination vessels. As with any other transfer you can manually type in the volume in the Transfer In box. With the multi topping there is an Apportion Out option that will spread the topping volume proportional to each of your destination vessels.
Finally you need to decide how you want vintrace to handle the volumes on your destination vessels. The Topping Mode drop down gives you two options.
- Record pre-topping loss will not change the end volume of the wine. It will automatically record a loss prior to the topping and then top the vessel back up to it's current volume.
- Increase volume by amount will change the volume in your vessel by the amount specified in the Transfer In field. This is useful to fill smaller breakdown vessels like kegs if you have wine left over from a barrel.
Once you've saved your topping you will have depleted your topping material and should be able to view updated volumes and compositions on your topped wines.
